Learn more Custom earmolds for hearing aids The AURORA manufactures custom earmolds for hearing aids, noise- and water-protection, as well as for medical, military and music devices. The effectiveness and comfort of the hearing aid depends, to a large extent, on the earmold. This is best achieved with custom earmolds made with ear impressions and acoustically modified to the users’ audiometric data and hearing aid models. A very important function of a custom earmold is to prevent or reduce the so-called “acoustic feedback” between the hearing aid speaker and microphones, which is familiar to users as an unpleasant and annoying whistle that overlaps and distorts the sounds amplified by the hearing aid, and also embarrassingly gives the user away to the others. Customized noise protection earmoldsAmbient noise is one of the main causes of the onset and progressive worsening of hearing loss. Therefore, noise protection is very important to prevent hearing loss.Individual noise protection earmolds provide the best possible protection against noise – by providing the best possible acoustic insulation for the ear. Custom earmolds for medical, military, and music devicesThere are devices for which it is important to isolate the ear from ambient noise – such as medical stethoscopes, earphones, music monitors, portable military intercom systems – to better hear the intended useful sounds from the device. Just like conventional noise protection, custom earmolds for such devices provide the best sound isolation (up to 40 dB), comfort during prolonged use, and therefore, the most efficient use of such devices. Custom water-protection earmoldsGetting the water contaminated with bacteria in the ear is one of the causes of ear disease. Therefore, protecting the ear from water effectively prevents ear diseases.Custom water-protection earmolds offer the best protection against water – by providing the tightest possible insulation of the ear. In particular, water-protection earmolds are recommended for bathing in swimming pools and especially in open water. Advantages of custom earmolds Anatomical precision: The earmolds are made according to an ear impressions to ensure a snug and comfortable fit of the earmold surface to the skin of the ear canal .Health safety: AURORA manufactures custom earmolds from certified hypoallergenic materials that do not cause irritation or adversely affect the user’s health. The kits consist of a face-plate with mounted electronic components, including a chip for digital sound processing and amplification, microphones and miniature speakers (telephones), a battery compartment, a wax filter, and additional acoustic components. The shells of the instruments are made according to an ear impressions and audiologist prescription. The ear impression is scanned with a laser scanner, and the scan file is sent to a special software, in which a specialist models the entire future hearing aid – the shell and the placement of all the components in the shell. The file with the electronic model of the shell is sent to a 3D-printer, where the shell is printed from a special resin by laser beam – similar to custom earmolds. It is very important that not only the outer shell of the device, but also the sound bore and vent are printed in one go. This allows optimizing their shape and minimizing the size of the hearing aid, and thus expands the possibilities of fitting the hearing aid into a small ear, or an ear with an unusual shape of the ear canal. The printed shell is strengthened with nitrogen, and then polished. After that, all acoustic and electronic components are installed in the shell and the shell is coupled to the face-plate with a special adhesive. The acoustic control of the hearing aid characteristics for compliance with the manufacturer-specified parameters – and the device is ready for use!Of course, all these technological processes are performed at the AURORA in strict compliance with the Quality Management System and Oticon guidelines, instructions, and flow-charts for each hearing aid model. Examples include a very small (especially in infants and young children), narrow, unusually curved ear canal that makes it difficult to fit the desired earmold or the desired hearing aid. These challenges are overcome by 3D printing technology. As with conventional technologies, custom earmolds and hearing aids are made from ear impressions. But that’s where the similarity ends:The impression is scanned with a laser scanner, and the scan file is sent to a special software where a specialist models the entire future ear piece or the entire future hearing aid – the shell and the placement of all the components of the instrument in it.The file with the electronic model of the earmold or the body of the in-the-ear device is transferred to a 3D- printer, where the earmold or the shell is printed from a special resin by the laser beam. It is very important that not only the shell walls, but also the sound bore and vent are printed simultaneously in the shell. That allows optimizing their shape and minimizing the size of the instrument. This increases the possibility of fitting an in-the-ear hearing aid into a small ear or an ear with an unusually-shaped ear canal, which means more people can use in-the-ear hearing aids. Advantages of 3D printingPrecision and comfort: 3D-printing provides high detail and precision, allowing for the creation of earmolds and in-the-ear hearing aids that perfectly match the shape of the ear.Hypoallergenic material: Acrylic is safe for the skin, non-irritating, and suitable for long-term wear by adults and children.Improved sound: Custom design minimizes sound distortion by resonances and improves sound quality.Durability: The acrylic ear molds are resistant to mechanical damage and retain their properties for a long time. You can be sure that your instrument is in good hands!Special equipment: All repairs are performed using special devices, tools, and materials that meet Oticon’s guidelines and strict quality standards.Technological processes: Service and repair of hearing aids is performed in full compliance with the technological processes established by Oticon, which is ensured by the Quality Management System implemented by AURORA, which complies with the quality standard for medical devices DSTU ISO 13485:2016.Original spare parts: AURORA uses only original Oticon components for repairs, which ensures complete restoration of the hearing aid to its factory specifications.Quality control: Each hearing aid after repair is subjected to a thorough quality control using high-precision acoustic measuring equipment. This ensures that the hearing aid is fully restored to its factory specifications and fine-tuned to match the user’s hearing. It is also important for the user that the device that comes in for repair is completely cleaned and disinfected. Terms of repairThe cost of repair is determined after a thorough hearing aid diagnostics, malfunction analysis, and depends on the model and the cost of the necessary spare parts. In many cases, repair of older models (15+ years) is possible, but requires prior check of the availability of spare parts.Quality control after hearing aid repairEach hearing aid repaired at the AVURORA undergoes a thorough quality control using special acoustic measuring equipment. In particular, the frequency response, output sound pressure levels, gain, and sound distortion are checked to ensure that they correspond to factory specifications. Programming (settings) are also checked, and, if necessary, re-programmed to restore the individual hearing aid parameters as prescribed by the user’s hearing care provider. Repair and replacement of earmoldsOver time, the earmold materials can lose elasticity, change color, and become damaged, and the earmolds themselves can also be damaged if they are handled improperly. For children, earmolds need to be replaced more often due to the rapid growth of the ear canal. The replacement of the transparent sound tube connecting the earmold to the hearing aid is also necessary to maintain sound quality. It is also important for the user that the earmold that comes in for repair is completely cleaned of earwax, debris, and disinfected.AURORA guarantees the quality of service and earmold manufacturing, helping to maintain the comfort and effectiveness of your hearing aids!Contacts for more details: 📞 063 508 09 23 | 044 501 03 51
